Today is the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross! Today we remember and celebrate the freedom we received from the Cross. What an amazing gift we have been given! What great love God has for us, and may we always remember His love and continue to be vessels of that love to all we meet!
Here are some excerpts from a homily by John Paul II on this feast day in 2003! What an amazing and wise pope we were blessed with for so many years!
Ideas For Celebrating the Triumph of the Cross
- Make cross shaped cookies
- Pray the Stations of the Cross
- Draw special attention to crucifixes in the home
- Sing songs about God's love for us and the victory of the Cross
- Make drawings and color pictures of the cross and the Passion of Our Lord
Lift High The Cross Hymn
Refrain
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim,
Till all the world adore His sacred Name.
Led on their way by this triumphant sign,
The hosts of God in conquering ranks combine.
Refrain
Each newborn servant of the Crucified
Bears on the brow the seal of Him Who died.
Refrain
O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree,
As Thou hast promised, draw the world to Thee.
Refrain
So shall our song of triumph ever be:
Praise to the Crucified for victory.

Thanks again, Erin - a great remembrance for the feast today. We'll be able to go to Mass together as a family tonight (a Monday night ritual).
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, one of Bella's lullabies is that hymn. (she, ahem, had a rough first 6 months.) We sang it yesterday at Mass and her little eyes started drifting!
