The Presentation of Our Lord

Lord, now you let your servant go in peace,

your word has been fulfilled:
My own eyes have seen the salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of every people:
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.

Today is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This feast day can also be known as Candlemas, and marks the purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Presentation of Jesus in the temple. Traditionally this is a day when candles are blessed. Here is an excellent commentary about this feast that is worth a read, and explains it much better than I ever could!

Ideas for Celebrating this Feast Day
  • The tradition in Europe is to eat pancakes or crepes. Sounds like a perfect excuse to make some cream and fruit filled crepes for dessert! :)
  • Make cookies that look like candles.
  • Light holy candles in your home.
  • Read the account of the Presentation in Luke as a family.
